02/17/24 FOR OUR BENEFIT

02/17/24 FOR OUR BENEFIT

Neither the sling nor the stone David used in killing Goliath are enshrined as religious relics, neither is the sword, which David used in beheading the giant. David's victory was the work of God, not the accomplishment of a boy or fleshly weapons.

The items were tools, which God provided for David at a specific time in history. We do not need to use a sling, a stone or a giant's sword to win our spiritual battles, but we should be encouraged by the example of God's presence in David's encounter with Goliath. God will provide the exact tool we need to do the work of God. Of course, God works in conjunction with our faith.

When we face an enemy or a task or an obstruction we need to seek God, find His leading and follow Him in faith. God will defeat our enemies, accomplish His will and deliver us by His wisdom and power.

The Old Testament (as well as the New Testament) is filled with scenarios, which enlighten and encourage us to be more than conquerors. Concerning the children of Israel's challenges and conflicts, God tells us through Paul,
1 Corinthians 10:11
11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

Just as we see through Old Testament examples, and through the life of Christ and the writings of the New Testament, God gives the same encouragement to believers today to overcome our problems, whether the conflict is with the world, the flesh and the devil or the conflict is with fellow believers. Concerning our relationship with one another (regardless of how difficult), God tells us through Paul,
Romans 15:1-7
1 We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.
2 Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification.
3 For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me.
4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
5 Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:
6 That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
7 Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.

Learn principles in the Old and New Testament, which can be applied to your Christian walk. we need to be certain that we are in, "the faith," since God works in those who have an active faith.
Hebrews 4:1-2
1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
